I love Advent Calendars. Plum Deluxe a tea company from Oregon has released their 2024 Tea Advent Calendar. The 25 day hand blended tea calendar offers a unique experience of holiday flavors. The loose tea comes in daily envelopes and provides enough for 4- 5 cups of tea. All of the tea comes in a collectible gift ready tin. They provide a how to use guide with commonly asked questions and a fun tab reveal sheet. You can order the calendar in caffeine or non caffeine/herbal versions. Half of the teas featured are exclusive. The exclusive teas will be available to order after Christmas.

Polyphenols are compounds that contribute to the flavors, colors and health benefits of many plant based foods. Health benefits include: reducing inflammation and oxidative stress, preventing cancer, support cellular energy production, lower blood sugar levels, neutralize free radicals and improve cognitive impairment. Some kinds of tea like green tea contain polyphenols, as well as berries, coffee, apples, dark chocolate, oats, turmeric, mint, and many more.

Plum Deluxe fan favorites

The Old Norse tradition of Álfablót, the sacrifice to the elves, is a Viking celebration held between the end of autumn and the beginning of winter. It dates back to the 8th-11th centuries. Little is known about this ancient tradition as many old traditions were forgotten or changed as Scandinavia became Christian. We do know that the people of the North believed it was a time that the power of the dead was at its strongest. Sacrifices of mead and meat were often given to extend friendship, and protection to ancestors to aid them through the darkness of winter. This celebration was held thousands of years ago yet around the same time we now celebrate Halloween, All Saint’s Day and the Day of The Dead.

A more traditional Christian celebration in Europe is also celebrated during this time, All Saint’s Day or All Soul’s Day which commemorates the “souls of the dead.” Many families light candles and visit their loved ones’ graves in cemeteries.

The Day of the Dead is a celebration to remember the dead and a time of prayer in Mexico. It is generally celebrated November 1st and 2nd. Families create alters and cook traditional dishes in remembrance of family and friends who have died. The current Day of the Dead is a combination of traditions from the Aztecs and the Spanish who invaded Mexico. The Spanish celebrated All Souls’ Day.

I find it fascinating that so many holidays from all over the world both past and present are intertwined, and celebrated around almost the same week of the year. A the root of the traditions are all the same: celebrating those who have lived before us.
